1. OUR PURPOSE IS TO  EXALT  THE LORD

 

• We exalt the Lord by striving to love Him with all of our heart, soul, and mind.

  • Matthew 22:37-38 “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.”

 

• We exalt the Lord by seeking to put Him first in our daily lives and in the church.

  • Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

  • Colossians_1:18  “And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.”

 

• We exalt the Lord by endeavoring to bring Him glory through our lives.

  • I Corinthians 10:31 “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” 

 

2. OUR PURPOSE IS TO EDIFY THE BELIEVER

 

• We edify believers through the preaching and teaching of God’s Word.

  • II Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” 

  • Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

  • Acts 19:20 “So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.”

 

• We edify believers through the fellowship of God’s people.

  • Hebrews 10:25 “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

  • Act 2:46 “And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart…”

 

• We edify believers through the ministry of prayer.

  • Acts 1:14 “These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication…”

  • Acts 4:31 “And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.” 

  • James 5:16 “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

• We edify believers through the unity of service

  • Philippians 1:27 “Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel…”

  • I Peter 4:10 “As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”

3. OUR PURPOSE IS TO EVANGELIZE THE LOST

 

• We evangelize the lost individually through our personal witness

  • Mark 16:15 “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

  • Daniel 12:3 “And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.”

 

• We evangelize the lost collectively through our local church outreach

  • Acts_5:42 “And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.”

  • Acts 2:47b “…And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”

 

• We evangelize the lost globally through our support of world-wide missions

  •  Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” (II Corinthians 8:1-15)
